What flight should I book?
Look for flights arriving before or on our retreat start date. American Airlines and Korean Air are popular choices for price and flight duration. Arriving earlier in the day will leave some time to explore the area on your own and settle in before our excursions. Each retreat starts with an arrival day that includes a free afternoon, followed by a welcome dinner at 7:00 pm. This will be our first official gathering. Some retreaters choose to arrive a day earlier to sleep off some jet lag and get a little extra time in. We will arrange all of the necessary transfers and extra hotel nights, should you choose to arrive sooner.
Flights out should be on or after the last day of the retreat. Afternoon flights are more favorable, as it will leave time to get the airport without a rushed morning check out. If you have the luxury of staying in Bali longer than the retreat, I have local friends there that can help with ideas of where to go and what to do.
Do I need a Visa?
Visas are given upon arrival for no charge.
Do I need a Vaccination?
There are no required vaccinations for Bali, but Hep A/B and Tetanus are always good to be current on for any travels. Check with cdc.org for other recommended and make a personal decision on what you feel comfortable with.
What do you wear in Bali?
Attire is very casual in Bali. It is tropical weather, so light is key. Light breezy sundresses or tanks and shorts are ok in the tourist area and at our villa. Pack (or buy) a sarong to cover up knees for temples and any ceremonies we find we can pop into. One t-shirt is handy, too. Hiking sandals that can go in the water such as Tevas or Keens are great for when we visit waterfalls.
- Note: I had a carry-on and a back pack, and I still over packed!
Will there be Laundry Service?
Our villa has laundry service, so here’s your chance to pack light and leave room for those treasures that you are sure to find! Very reasonable, only $3 a load. Pro-tip- if you are a shopper, pack a duffle bag in your luggage you can use on the way back, just in case.
What else should I pack?
Sunblock and Insect Repellent
Try leaving as many chemicals behind as possible, not only for you but to help preserve the eco-system of the island, as well. Look for reef-safe sunblock, to protect the coral from harm. I personally don’t have issues with mosquitoes in Bali, but if you do and natural bug deterrent is not enough, we have standard deet formulas available at the villa.
Refillable water bottles are a must. We try to cut down on plastic waste as much as possible. High-quality bottles will be available for purchase or borrowing at the villa, as well. There are refilling stations with filtered throughout Bali and at all of our accommodations.
International Plug Converter
These are available to borrow at all of our accommodations, but if you have one, toss it in your bag.
Other amenities at the villa:
What about local Currency?
Money exchange and ATM’s can be found all around Bali. Typically, you will get a better exchange rate outside of the airport and with larger notes.
Pack USD (100’s – 2006 and above, no tears or marks) or alert your bank you will travel so you don’t have issues with ATM’s. These are limited to $150- $175 withdraws at one time, so consider the fees that your bank charges per transaction. Most things are covered in the retreat, but I would say have at least $300 on you for extras. Add more if you like to shop. Credit cards are widely accepted but they will charge a 3-5% fee. Best to get the cash you need before we start to get started on our trip.
Available Optional Tours:
Hiking Mt. Batur for watching the sunrise over the clouds, morning boat ride for Dolphin Watching, Day at Zen Resort for Chakra Opening treatment and consultation, Horseback riding through the coffee plantations.
